Recall sometime ago, when first lady Dame Patience Goodluck in an address to a gathering of widows, referred to them as "my fellow widows".Without sounding as if am holding brief for her, chances are that the first lady was simply trying to identify with her target audience by giving them a high sense of belonging. But before our ever censorious public, such gaffe couldn't have just been overlooked and before long it was the the joke of the town.
But guess what, Dame Patience Goodluck can now proudly boast of a very high-profiled partner in blunder. Make no mistake, we are not talking about the NSCDC commandant of the Oga-At-The-Top fame but we are talking of no less a person than the US first lady, Michelle Obama, who accidentally called herself a ‘Busy Single Mother’.
In an interview with CBS about the difficulty of maintaining proper family nutrition/your sanity when you have a hectic schedule, First Lady Michelle Obama proves her point when she refers to herself as a "busy single mother." It's so difficult that sometimes you forget important details like the fact that you're still married! Of course, she recovers gracefully and says, "Sometimes when you've got the husband who's President, it can feel a little single, but he's there."
The difference here however is that while folks at the CBS see Michelle Obama's Single Mother gaffe as accidental, folks over here would not treat Dame Goodluck's fellow Widows' gaffe in similar light. Did I hear you say we are not being fair to our first lady?
