THIS NYSC MEMBER IS TOUCHING THEIR LIVES.

Early this year, I ran into Sintim Kingsley somewhere in Maitama and as we got talking, he told me that he was a Batch A corps memberand had embarked upon the establishment of an after-school library for the children of Tasha Community in the Federal Capital Territory, as part of his community service.

I offered him my support and promised to donate some books on behalf of my employers to the project, then we parted ways but not without exchanging contacts.
Last week Thursday  he was in my office to invite me for the formal unveiling  of the library he built
and stocked with books and other learning aids for the children within and around the Community.

The Library That Was Formally Unveiled
I eventually attended the event which took place on Saturday 27, 2013 and needless to say that the sleepy remote village of Tasha came alive over the weekend as a result of the event. Among those also in attendance were officials of the United States Embassy, Books For Africa and Evans Brothers Publishers Ltd.
Mr Patrick Plonski, the Director of Books for Africa in a handshake with Kingsley Sintim.
Officials of  the Books For Africa had come to see the project for themselves having donated
books to the project. They were obviously encouraged and pledged more support to the project.
Mr Patrick Plonski, the Director of Books for Africa, said that his organisation would be working with
the library in efforts to ensure that its shelves were filled with books that would be beneficial to people.

responsibility and willingness to partner with stakeholders in improving the literacy level among
the Nigerian child.

The initiator of the project, Kingsley Sintim who was visibly delighted by the show of support he
received, said that the idea of building library for the community was to encourage the residents
to imbibe the reading culture and promote their societal values. He said that library project
represented a way of giving back to the society part of what he had benefited from it.

The kids took turns to showcase their newly imbibed reading abilities and it was a delight to see the
impact the library has already had on them within the short spate of time it was built.  Mr Bill
Strassberger, the US embassy’s Cultural Affairs Officer, stressed the need for children to be
encouraged to read books. He noted that it is exciting to see children having access to books
that will help them learn about today and the future. According to him, they have visited many
libraries in Africa and in Nigeria and it is very exciting to see a village library such as this one
having the support of all the people,’’ he said.

Mr Patrick Plonski, the Director of Books for Africa tried beating the talking drum.
The village residents who were visibly delighted, treated their visitors to the traditional Gbayagi
Musical Dance and before you knew it, it was dancing galore as officials of the US embassy,
Books For Africa and Evans Publishers Ltd danced to the the rhythmic beats of the talking drum.

If a corps member can conceive such a project and use it in touching the lives of  many, then what
stops the representatives of this community to  even do more with the tax-payers money at their
disposal?

Posted by Unknown On Wednesday, April 17, 2013 0 comments
They may be rivals on the pitch but it appears there is no bad blood between La Liga superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi off it.
Ronaldo’s girlfriend Irina Shayak was given the opportunity to cut up a Barcelona shirt with the diminutive Argentinian's name on the back after being cornered by a Greek TV host.
However, the Russian model, considered to be one of the most beautiful women alive, refused to accept the offer, preferring to keep the peace between the two footballing icons.

Ronaldo and Messi are currently battling it out to be crowned Champions League top scorer this season - both Real Madrid and Barcelona are through to the semi-finals so they have at least two more matches to add to their hauls.
Messi currently has eight goals, while Real's talismanic forward sits top of the charts with 11 goals.
The 28-year-old Portugal international has been consistently outdone by his Barcelona counterpart Messi when it comes to being recognised as the world's greatest - Ronaldo has finished runner-up three times to the Argentine in the Ballon d'Or.
Messi has won two La Liga titles to Ronaldo's one since the two have playing in the same league and Barcelona look odds on to be the kings of Spain once again this season.
However, Real look strong in Europe and the possibility of a El Clasico Champions League final would see the two clash once again.

Meanwhile, Paris St Germain director of football Leonardo insists the club have not made an offer for Ronaldo but said he could not rule out big buys this summer.
The capital club are closing in on their first Ligue 1 title in 19 years and put together an impressive Champions League run, exiting the competition unbeaten after being knocked out by Barcelona on the away goals rule at the quarter-final stage.
That success has come on the back of major investment from the club's Qatari owners, and further spending is expected this summer ahead of another assault on Europe's premier club competition.

PSG have a star-studded team with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Thiago Motta and Brazilian Lucas Moura all plying their trade at the Parc des Princes. They also have former Manchester United, Real Madrid and AC Milan midfielder David Beckham in their ranks.
Signing Real Madrid star Ronaldo would be a major statement of intent but Leonardo played down the chances of a deal.
'On Ronaldo, there has never been an offer,' he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
