Just within his early hours and days as Pope-elect, Pope Francis has already sent a powerful message to Nigerian religious leaders.
Pope Francis heeded to the psalmist call in Psalm 133:-3 which says: "how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity. It is like precious oil poured upon Aaron's head, running down his beard onto the collar of his robes. It is like the dew of Hermon coming down the mountains of Zion, where the lord confers his blessing: life everlasting."
This verses is aptly captured by this picture in which our dear Archbishop John Cardinal Onaiyekan can be seen with other Cardinals cruising in a bus with Pope Francis shortly after his election.
This is a clarion call for our pastors and religious leaders especially in Nigeria to shun their penchants for self aggrandizement evidenced in their showmanship lifestyles of acquiring Limos, private jets and other materialistic vanities and instead imbibe a life of simplicity and fraternity with the flock they are shepherding.
