Rolling Dollar, Pa Odiase Are Dead!
Pa Benedict Odiase, Nigeria National Anthem Composer and Pa Fatai Rolling Dollar are both dead
News filtering says Pa Benedict Odiase, the man who composed the Nigeria
National Anthem is dead. He was reported to have died in his sleep last
night. Pa Odiase who until death was a retired Deputy Commissioner of
Police and former Director of Music with the Nigeria Police Band.
Sadly, there was no record that Pa Odiase was adequately compensated
for his patriotism, except for the title, Member of the Order of Niger
(MoN) conferred on him. Is Nigeria therefore worth the stress? Just
think about it. #deathinvain
In another development, the
Juju/Highlife music maestro, Pa Fatai Rolling Dollar, the popular "Wón
Kéré Sí Number Wa" crooner is also dead. Pa Rolling Dollar died at age
85. The octogenarian passed on this morning at Ahmadiyya Hospital in
Abule-Egba, Lagos, Nigeria. He was rushed to the hospital by his wife
about a week ago.
Kunle Tejuosho, whose label, Jazzhole
Records, brought out ‘Won Kere Si Number Wa’ among other albums,
confirmed his death. He said the deceased came back from America some
weeks ago where he had gone for shows for about three weeks. Adieu!!!
