A Chief Magistrates' Court in Gusau, Zamfara, on Friday remanded a 25-year old father, Sabiu Labbo, for allegedly poisoning his three-day old baby to death.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Daniel Longwal, told the court that on June 26, one Binta Sabiu of Gidan Gunsunu village, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, reported the case at Kasuwar Daji Police station.
Longwal said that the mother of the baby, Binta, was bathing when the accused, Sabiu entered the room and intentionally fed the baby with a local pesticide.
The prosecutor further said that the pesticide, popularly known as Otapiapia, led to the death of the baby.
He added that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Penal Code.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The acting Chief Magistrate, Alhaji Umar Abdullahi, remanded the accused person in prison, and adjourned further hearing to July 24. (NAN)
